Kent are back on top of Division Two after somewhat nervily disposing of Middlesex at Lord’s by three wickets this morning.

They ought to be back in second place shortly once Warwickshire have completed their expected victory over Leicestershire at Grace Road. But, if third-placed Sussex fail to chase down 322 to beat Durham at Chester-le-Street, that should make the top two feel more secure.

To add to the picture, Sussex next week host Warwickshire, who then host Kent in the final round of fixtures.

“If I’m totally honest,” Kent captain Sam Billings told BBC Sport, “we know this division is going down to the wire.

“We play Warwickshire in the last game, but all our focus is completely on Glamorgan at Canterbury next week and trying to get a result there.

“We can’t do anything about other teams, neither can we afford to take our eye off the ball in a three-horse race. We want to be in positions like this. Now it’s a matter of getting over the finish line.”
